StepFun (阶跃星辰) has signed an agent-systems partnership with Ant Group's Alipay, according to Recode China AI citing domestic sources published this week. The arrangement puts StepFun's agentic model layer inside Alipay's super-app ecosystem — its most significant consumer-facing deployment to date, extending a strategy built primarily around device and vehicle embeddings.
StepFun's models are already running inside more than 40 million smartphones and, through a partnership with Geely, are targeting one million vehicle integrations by end of 2026. The Alipay deal adds a high-frequency financial-services context to that hardware footprint: Alipay's monthly active user base runs into the hundreds of millions, giving StepFun a live agent proving ground at scale.
The partnership arrives as StepFun prepares for a Hong Kong IPO. The company has dismantled its VIE structure, converted to joint-stock form, and is reportedly backed pre-IPO by the Hong Kong Investment Corporation — the city's sovereign fund — as its sole large-model bet. The Alipay integration strengthens the commercial traction narrative ahead of a filing the company was targeting before mid-year.
